Industries

Six industries, and what is actually wrong in each

Industry pages usually exist so a consultant can claim expertise in everything. These ones carry a note at the top saying how much experience I really have in that field, because you are going to find out anyway and it is cheaper for both of us if you find out now.

Dental practices

Most dental SEO is sold as content marketing. In practice, a practice's search problem is nearly always the map pack, the new-patient phone call, and a website that buries the one thing a nervous person is looking for.

WordPress sites

WordPress is not bad for SEO. What is bad for SEO is eleven years of plugins, three abandoned page builders, and a theme that renders your headings in the wrong order.

Ecommerce

Ecommerce SEO splits into two jobs that need different people. Category architecture at ten thousand products is one. Getting a small catalogue found by the people who want it is the other. I do the second well.

Shopify stores

Shopify makes a good store easy and a good URL structure impossible. Most Shopify SEO work is deciding how to live with that rather than fighting it.

Software and SaaS

I build and market software as well as consult on it. FixyFlow is mine: I write its pages, watch its Search Console, and live with the results, which is a different relationship to this work than reading about it.

Law firms

Legal search is expensive, crowded and regulated. The firms that do well are usually the ones that picked a narrow practice area and refused to be a general firm on the internet.

One thing every one of these has in common

On 2026-09-21, 5 of these 6 searches returned an AI-written answer above the results on every one of three runs. For anybody selling into those industries that changes the job: it is no longer enough to rank under the answer, you have to be the kind of source the answer is assembled from.

The count moves. Running the same eleven searches three times in one morning, one industry search produced an answer on the first pass, none on the next three, and one again later the same day. A single check of your own market will mislead you. The full measurement is here.

In practice that means being described accurately in places you do not control, having something published that can be quoted, and keeping your details consistent enough that a machine reading about you does not get confused between you and somebody else. It is slower than ranking and it does not respond to the usual levers.

If your industry is not on this list, the method does not change. The consulting page covers how the work runs, the local SEO page covers the map side, and the results page has what the work has produced. The first call is where we work out whether your problem is one I have seen before.

Start with a 15 minute call

No deck and no discovery phase. Tell me the site and the problem, and I will tell you whether I can help and what it would cost. If I am the wrong person, I will say so on the call.
